Combe Down Heritage Society
Cookery Competition to Celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
Create a tasty dish and win a feast from “COOK”!
★ We invite you to create a dish (costing not more than £5) using ingredients that would have been available to Ralph Allen, Bath’s eminent 18th century entrepreneur, who lived at Prior Park, the grand Bath household just down the hill from Combe Down.
★ The book “Mr and Mrs Ralph Allen at Home” (free when you enter the competition – see below) will give you ideas for what would have been popular with fashionable diners in those days.
★ Be inspired, imaginative and have fun making your dish. Show how inventive you can be, make it attractive and tasty. Tell us what ingredients you use and how you made your special dish.
★ Make a 3 minute video of you preparing your dish, as though you were on TV Master Chef (with help from friends and family). Let them taste the results and tell you how good it is!
As your budget for the dish must not exceed £5.00, you may want to search for vegetables, wild herbs and berries as they come into season.
Fill in the entry form below so that we can add you to our WhatsApp group “Celebration Chefs”. Please note, WhatsApp restricts all videos to a maximum of 3 minutes. (If you don’t have WhatsApp on your mobile phone you will need to download it from the App Store – it’s free and is a secure way of sharing on line.)
We invite you to take a free copy of “Mr and Mrs Ralph Allen At Home”, by Rosemary Simmons, available either at the Cook store at Bear Flat 12-19 Wells Way Bath, BA2 2AA or by request from Combe Down Heritage Society on this web site.
This competition will be running throughout the summer and all videos must be posted on WhatsApp between August 24 and 28. We will endeavour to send you timely reminders of these dates. The winner will be announced on WhatsApp “Celebration Chefs”.
